- The vanilla Windows Media Player does NOT support MPEG2.
- If you install a DVD player software, such as PowerDVD, Windows
Media Player becomes capable of playing MPEG2 files (because the DVD
player software installs MPEG2 codecs, which the Windows Media Player uses.).
- If you don't feel like using non-free software, an excellent
alternative is the free VLC media
player. I used this setup
binary for Windows. The Linux
versions are also excellent.
